Playthings is located in Madison, Wisconsin in the Hilldale Mall. Nancy Nigl opened the store in 1986 when she had to hunt the internet for quality toys because no stores in Madison carried them. Nancy says most of her business today stays true to that beginning. Although she has a web site,  most of the parents who shop at Playthings do it in her Madison store. “We are a specialty children’s toy store that aims to entertain, educate and fascinate minds of all ages!” she explains.

Known for having a large variety of unique toys for all ages, Playthings has a free frequent buyer account where customers earn discounts once they spend a certain amount in the store. Nancy says that parents shop at her store because, “Our staff is helpful and knowledgeable with questions.  We have three activity tables set up to occupy the little ones that might be tagging along for the shopping trip – not to mention the rest of the store that kids love to look at!”

“We try to recycle as much as we can,” adds Nancy. “Cans, bottles, paper and packing materials that come with our shipments are all recycled.” She explains that her first step is buying from companies that manufacture and ship in an eco-friendly manner. “There is less to recycle in the first place.” She adds that Madison is a community with many green residents, so earth-friendly information is prevalent. “Our local media sources do a good job of covering the important topics.”
